NG Bailey sets target to reduce its CO2 emissions by 20 per cent by 2012
NG Bailey has made a commitment to reduce its carbon footprint by 20 per cent by the end of 2012.
The UK’s largest independent building services provider has already reduced its carbon output by 7.7 per cent over the last year but knows that it needs to do better if it is to aid in the Government’s ambitious 34 per cent carbon reduction target for the UK, by 2020.
In addition to reducing the emissions from its national estate, NG Bailey is also committed to reducing its impact on sites through the development of a suite of eco friendly site cabins – creating an opportunity to reduce emissions by up to 40 per cent. The eco friendly cabins will be launched on all new company sites as of August.
As well as reducing carbon emissions NG Bailey is also focusing its attention on halving its waste to landfill, reducing water consumption and using more sustainable methods of construction, such as off-site manufacture – all of which are key to the company’s sustainability strategy.
Cal Bailey, sustainability director, comments: “We have set ourselves some challenging targets, but ones we felt necessary in order to do our bit for the good of the planet. By the very nature of what we do, we help our clients to be more sustainable, so its only right that we practice what we preach.
“A big part of our Target 2012 campaign is in encouraging our employees to join us on our carbon reduction journey. The way we behave where the green agenda is concerned is absolutely crucial.”
Chris Newton, acting chief executive of NG Bailey adds: “Sustainability makes good business sense. Low energy buildings cost less to run over their lifetime, are worth more as an asset and offer occupants a better environment in which to work.
”With 45 per cent of the UK’s carbon emitted from the built environment, construction companies up and down the supply chain have a huge part to play in realising the Government’s 2020 goal.”
